  Akerley Campus Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

The Akerley Campus of the Nova Scotia Community College offers full and part-time certificate and diploma programs in Business, Health and Human Services, Hospitality, Trades and Technologies. As well, the campus offers Access Programming, which prepares students for college programs. A notable addition to access programming is the delivery and awarding of an Adult High School Diploma in conjunction with the Nova Scotia Department of Education. The Campus also operates the Aviation Institute, located in Shearwater, where programs in Aviation Technology - Pilot, and Aircraft Technician - Mechanical are offered. In addition, a wide range of evening and weekend courses are available through part-time studies. Officially opened in 1969 the campus is home to more than 1000 full-time students and over 2500 part-time and continuing education students. The Akerley Campus is located off Main Street in the Dartmouth area of the Halifax Regional Municipality. The Campus, named after the first mayor of the city of Dartmouth, is the largest in the Nova Scotia Community College system. Many services and amenities are located in the surrounding residential and commercial area; notably the YMCA is co-located on the Akerley Campus and accessible to students.

Services to Students
Student life at Akerley Campus is supported by a wide variety of facilities and resources. The Campus is wheelchair accessible. A service cafeteria is available and the library is open evenings and weekends. Campus facilities include on-site parking, bookstore and student lounge. The Campus Student Services Office provides academic and personal counseling, career planning and assessment, a student resource centre, job postings and placement assistance, skills workshops and financial information on student loans and scholarships. Support services are also available through student services for students with special needs. The campus has a Registrar's Office to assist students with course selection, transfer credits, course costs and other academic matters. The campus also organizes a variety of recreational and sports activities for students. Campus life is supported through the Student Associations that facilitate and support a variety of student activities throughout the college year.
