South Shore Regional Hospital (SSRH) is an 84-bed acute care health facility, which serves a population base of approximately 60,000. It is located on the East Side of the LaHave River in a park-like setting and is within a stone's throw of the Medical Arts Building, which houses a number of physicians' private practices. Clinical Services
SSRH also has an Infection Control Nurse and an Occupational Health Nurse. Discharge Planning/Utilization Management, Home Care, Social Work, Palliative Care, and Pastoral Care further support patients and their families. Internal Medicine Department - Five Internists offer expertise in the sub-specialties of Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, and Endocrinology. They are also intrinsic to the operation of a separate Endoscopy Unit. Specialty Staff - Includes 4 Radiologists, a Paediatrician(s), a Pathologist, and several Psychiatrists. Inpatient Units - Includes Surgical, Paediatric, Obstetrics & Nursery, ICU, Medical, and Mental Health.
Home Based Clinics & Support Services - Many support groups, health boards, and wellness associations hold meetings at the hospital on a regular basis at no charge. Health Services Foundation of the South Shore - Founded in 1993, the Health Services Foundation of the South Shore raises funds for both SSRH and Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital (FMH). The Foundation, which resulted from a merger of the South Shore Regional Hospital Foundation and the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital Society, responds to the needs of the hospital, but is accountable to the donors and the community, whose gifts make its work possible. The Foundation hosts four special events each year. “Hit it for Health”, presented by Osprey Ridge Golf Club; “Cure for a Cause”, hosted by the Lunenburg Curling Club; an annual Gingerbread House Auction & Tea in Mahone Bay; and a fall Gala “Jeans & Gems”, all raise significant funds for hospital services and equipment. Well Women's Clinics - These are held at SSRH twice a year. Volunteer Service - This enhances the quality of patient care by providing non-professional support and complimentary care. It also augments existing services through the use of community volunteers in 27 established programs at SSRH. SSRH Auxiliary - The Auxiliary's nearly 100 members raises hundreds of thousands of dollars annually through the Hospital Gift Shop and a used clothing shop, The Daisy.

Emergency Medical Care (EHS) Emergency Health Services Nova Scotia (EHS), a division of the Nova Scotia Department of Health is the emergency response service provider in Bridgewater. EHS is responsible for the continual development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of pre-hospital emergency health services in the Province (paramedic, ground and air ambulance, trauma and first response). Nova Scotia is the largest jurisdiction in North America to have a single medical dispatch centre. The operation provides a single point of access to all of the pre-hospital emergency medical care resources controlled by EHS.
