Bridgewater was incorporated on February 13, 1899. An elected council consisting of a Mayor and six (6) Councillors oversees the affairs of the Town of Bridgewater. They work with several Committees of Council, which include representatives from the community. A Town Manager co-ordinates the daily operations of the Town.

Pure and Clean! The 15 million-gallon reservoir water supply for Bridgewater is from three large fresh water lakes and is one of the largest water reserves in Nova Scotia. Bridgewater boasts a new state-of-the-art $7.8 million water treatment plant that anticipates having a 4 million-gallon capacity. The current wastewater treatment plant has a three million-gallon per day capacity with expansion capabilities.
